You have two choices: complete the summer reading list and win a prize.
OR
Complete the summer reading list and based on what you read and do a creative project about change: make a video, artwork, or photo or write a poem or short story that portrays what change means to you or other teens. Submit you project to the library by August 8th to enter the grand prize drawing. 1st place wins $40.00, 2nd place: $20.00, 3rd place $10.00.
(please review contest rules below)
Start the Reading List: Pick up a Teen Reading Log Sheet at the checkout desk to keep track of what you read. Read from a total of 12 different sources. These can include books, magazines, web pages, e-books or videos. You can read any book from the shelf in front of Mary’s desk, or pick your own. If you are planning to participate in the grand prize contest and make your own video, photo, artwork or poem / short story, remember to think about how your book relates to change. For magazines, websites, e-books or videos, choose from the list below. Read 3 of each: 3 books, 3 magazine articles or e-books, 3 websites and watch 3 videos. Or you can just read all books. For everything you read or watch, write a sentence or two about what you liked or didn’t, and why you picked it. Complete the reading list by August 8th to be eligible to enter a project in the grand prize contest.
Grand Prize Project: Create a video, photograph, artwork (can be traditional or digital media) or creative writing and submit it to the library by August 8 th. Submit your work in traditional format (printout, sculpture, painting, etc) or in digital form by saving it to a CD or emailing the file to the librarian: rorlandi@swls.org. If your work is online, email the link. The library can provide you with art supplies, a digital camera (24 hour checkout), or FLIP video camcorder (1 daytime checkout during library hours). Your library account must be in good standing, with no current fines or policy violations.
