The Hildebrand Memorial Library was designed by the Prairie School architectural firm of Claude and Starck.  The firm was responsible for the design of 63 Carnegie public libraries in Wisconsin. The construction of Carnegie public and academic libraries throughout the midwest was funded through the generosity of the industrialist Andrew Carnegie, to promote literacy.  While construction of the Boscobel Library in 1926 was enabled by a gift from local businessman George F. Hildebrand, our library also shares the proud architectural history of the Claude and Starck Carnegies.

To learn more you can take a look at an online postcard gallery of these libraries at http://home.comcast.net/~jaulik/carnwi.html , or read about Claude and Starck's work at http://www.madisonmagazine.com/article.php?story_id=152147&xstate=view_story
